JRAD Evergreen at Frost; goldenvoice announces his pre-sale for second summer with Grateful Dead tribute band; Venue honored by industry

EEDEA23D-8218-4C4F-93B9-E295B3BAD105

Joe Russo Almost Dead at Stanford Frost Amphitheater August 15,

I stopped Rick Mueller of golden voice AEG at the polestar right before the awards banquet  congratulate him on the fact that the magazine listed Frost amphitheater as one of five best new venues for its awards ceremony I said I voted for them for number one.

But I also gave them a little shit and in fact 20 years of several people that it was listed as “Palo Alto” and not Stanford.

If it was part of the city here we would likely be getting some tax sales revenues I think at least from the liquor.

Golden voice does not do shows in Palo Alto although we try to get David Lefkowitz to lean in and tour the varsity when it was in play.  I sold a 1,0000 tickets last year at Mitchell Park community Center and therefore in bigger in Palo alto than golden voice is. (Not to get cocky: golden voice sold at least 100,000 tickets including for Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson in the same week although I felt Lionel Richie was the best show in that he really tried to connect.)

My best show in terms of attendance Molly Tuttle she’s going on the sign new management with Vector ( Emmylou Harris and more, much more)  played for a Grateful Dead festival in Mexico and I was also going to be in jazz fest second weekend next year. She has a couple dead covers in her set, But also yeah yeah yeah.

this puts it in perspective:

Small Venue Talent Buyer of the Year (Under 10K Capacity)
Stacie George, Live Nation

My goal is to get up to 10,000 people for the year .

In the 10 seasons before the Dodgers move west, New York team’s comprised 16 of 20 World Series competitors, all three teams won (and the Dodgers won their first year in LA)

The tip of the To Bruce Weber and Roger Kahn

July 7 is the 27 year anniversary of the death of Mia Zapata

BA9E604E-BB9B-44A9-975E-65B5791D9B3FI never met Mia Zapata, nor heard the Gits, but the response of the SF music community to her death  was an influence on my decision to start Earthwise Productions.

My first show at Cubberley was a showcase for The Mudwimin, in October, 1994.

Mia’s murder was solved as a DNA cold case in 2004.

Today I bought a magazine to read story on Mia Zapata.

Sunday July 5 might be the right time to produce some sort of tribute event — 27 years since the death of the 27 year old musician.

Mia Zapata z’ l’ VS John Parker z’ l’

Mia and her band went to Antioch College of Ohio. . John Parker went to Deer Valley High School in Antioch, CA.

Mia’s murder was a catalyst in my decision to work as an activist or in the arts.

Planes Indians

This was not a touchdown it was a pylon kisser.

They should change the name of the pro football scoring play from “touch-down” which implies that beyond breaking the plane you also have to get into the zone far enough to literally put pigskin to God’s green earth — that’s how rugby still does it.

Sherman knocked him out on the 1, yo.

Hail to the Chiefs — although there’s a lot of Cherokee and Navajo g’s that want to pop an arrowhead cap in their collective ass.

note: i thought I posted this as a comment verbatim to the yahoo article about whether the refs screwed the Niners, but I cannot find the post.
1. Chiefs probaby deserved the win;
2. Touchdown should go back to more than breaking the plane.
3. Plains Indians are from the Midwest;
4. Native Americans protest NFL use of mascots that reference their ethnicity: Redskins, Chiefs.
5. “pop a cap in his ass” is pop reference, I think from “Pulp Fiction”. Arrowhead is the name of Chiefs’ stadium and an actual tool made by indigenous people. How did the Dallas Texans become the Chiefs anyhow? I am guessing that a part of KC was “arrow head” before that???
6. I have a cousin in KC, and he owned a bagel stop — New York Deli.

edit to add, minutes alter: I sussed around to learn that Lamar Hunt pulled the whole Chiefs and Arrowhead thing out of his ass. The KC library had an article on this.
Mark Weiss, thanks for asking your question: “I would change the name to Honoosoo Stadium which is Arapaho for either “It is fancy” or “It is raining” depending on your prosody”
If we’re able to investigate it further, we’ll email you at earwopa@yahoo.com.
Feel free to encourage your friends to ask questions, too!

Sara Choy VS Ted Kluszewski

I was working on something else –looking for some photo from last year’s 2019 San Francisco Rock and Roll Half Marathon, and I did a double take and asked myself: is that Ted Kluszewski? Ted was a powerful first baseman and home run hitter for the Reds who would accentuate his intimidating bulk by cutting the sleeves off his otherwise uniform jersey. (I think he appears elsewhere here in Plasty…)

Sara Choy is a Stanford tennis player who was my neighbor when she was in high school and junior high, at Oak Creek Apartments. I tried to talk her into attending Gunn after Terman but she transferred to Sacred Heart – -where her coach ironically was Gunn grad Jeff Arons. Anyhow, the PAW had an item this week that said she is playing fourth singles for The Cardinal and had the winning point / match in a competition – and I freeze framed or captured that photo.

Klu VS Choy?

Stephanie Savides said once that Choy would peak early because she was only 5 feet tall.

I like to say that there were 25 individuals, pairs or teams that were CCS champs or finalists for Gunn, although none since Rebecca Dirksen who later starred for Dartmouth. Emily Zhou was a top ranked junior and Dartmouth’s 4th recruit for class of 2024 although she did not play for Gunn, merely attended there.

Kudos and good luck to Sara Choy.

Wonder Bread 5 to finish SF Half Marathon — I hope they play Cake “The Distance” or Nirvana “Smells LIke Middle Aged Guys Who Need a Shower”

48. LONG RUN? (which would be about 8 to 10 at most — for a 13.1 mile San Francisco Rock and Roll Half Marathon, Sunday, April 5 where my goals would be a, finish; b, survive to talk about it; c, beat last year’s time, which should be easy since I jumped in at the last minute; although I am 20 pounds heavier than then; d, let’s say the goal is 3 hours, which means 12 times 15 minute miles plus a sprint at the wire. Basically, as I did last year – -which was walk 10 miles and run 3, at 20 min mile for the walk and 14 min mile or so for the jogs — to merely beat the body-snatcher or the close of timing — which was four hours — I would be combining walking and jogging. One idea, which was suggested to me last time but a bit beyond my reach, would be to super-set a series of 90 one minute walks and 90 one-minute walks, for three hours or 180 minutes.

35. you can sort of infer if you are reading this in February or I never returned to it, that my goal for the training period of two months is 50 workouts. That includes 100 miles on the road, like 20 road workouts at an average of 5 miles per run, between two miles starting point and the 10 mile long runs. At one point I had planned to do 500 miles in prep but that didn’t last long.

36. I will paste this in at the bottom, as in workout number 1 of 50, but today this a.m. I went to the gym and did 2 miles on the treadmill, in about 40 minutes. You got to start somewhere. I weighed in this morning at 218. My pulse on the treadmill went up to about 118. I think normally or as I advance I would add some weights. Or maybe: warm-up, weights, cardio/endurance. I guessI should watch what I eat. Also, I wonder how the discipline will help my other pursuits, for example my concert series. I guess I could count my drinks per week and then taper them or count down. Let’s say it is capped at 10 for now. Hydrate. A second set of goals is: visit the gym every day, or 50 times total (every day would be 60 times or so).

2. Tuesday — dropped by the gym, before a 430 pm phoner. did two miles in 30 min on the treadmill. That’s good for me. I think I will do a LSD run from my North Palo Alto abode to The Mitch, maybe this weekend. That’s about 8 miles RT. LSD means long slow distance In my case that means mostly walk. Or it could mean walk down and ride share back. my plan is to hit the gym and some weights in the morning before my trip to LA, and then Thursday we are walking Griffith Park before the conference. My goal is work out every day this month.

Shakira VS Roy Orbison hologram

Sure, they were cute — Shakira and JLo shaking it at halftime, but I think of Americana for Super Bowl halftime shows. I’d rather see the Jackson State band.
Or a Roy Orbison “Pretty Women” hologram.
I have to admit, however, that the 60 Minutes segment on the Colombian singer made me like her more. (I saw at after the game, and after writing the lead to this).

I also admit that my last several posts have been pretty obscure.

and1: not sure how I got here but did I read that Lizzo toured with Har Mar Superstar???
