Brazilian Fabianna Cozza voice Vinicius Gomes guitar duo open am Earthwise show at The Mitch, supporting Lisa Mezzacappa trio Friday August 18 $20 at EventBrite or walk up. Meanwhile Tierney Sutton appears Sunday for Palo Alto Jazz Alliance for $40 with piano accompaniment at Community School Mountain View (that a KCSM announcer seemed to call “a tattoo hall “). In the City of Palo Alto series tomorrow night, we have Portuguese with a Russian accent by Masha Campagne, who I hear is very good, at Rinconada Park. I remember meeting Sutton at IAJE in 2004 and that she attended Wellesley and USC, or was that Wesleyan then Berkelee. Eleven-time Grammy nominee.

duo B. Cine-Concert featuring Lisa Mezzacappa & Jason Levis with special guests viDEO sAVant and SPELUNKER
The Bay Area improvising drums and bass duo of Jason Levis and Lisa Mezzacappa joins forces with special guests, Italian saxophonist SPELUNKER and video artist Charlie Woodman (viDEO sAVant) for a set of exploratory improvisation and immersive visuals. Expect shimmery soundscapes, edgy grooves, and surreal layered imagery. The evening features decades of deep musical collaboration – Mezzacappa and Levis have been performing together for more than 20 years, taking deep dives into in the music of Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, Cecil Taylor, Wadada Leo Smith, and others, and releasing three records. They are a first-call rhythm section backing up local jazz heroes such as Phillip Greenlief, Cory Wright, Nathan Clevenger, Sarah Wilson, and others. Special guest from Ferrara, Italy, woodwind player SPELUNKER is one of the leading lights in Italy’s creative jazz community as a composer, bandleader and side person, co-leading the Tower Jazz Composers Orchestra and releasing recordings on the Clean Feed, El Gallo Rojo and Aut record labels. Media artist Charlie Woodman is a pioneer of expanded cinema and real-time video improvisation.
I appreciate photos and ETHAN IVERSON sub stack of label. Heads, François of Sunnyside and Jordi of fresh sounds. Coincidentally, I name checked the label crisscross at city Council last night, because and scare the Netherlands is our sister city here. Our other photos of friends of ETHAN IVERSON has published on his sub stack . Used with perms

I am haunted by your radiance: The man in the ocean-blue jumpsuit drowning in silver who kicks his leg heavenward during Rick James shouting
“Give It to Me Baby.” The woman in a pink sweater with a bow and massive white collar swinging her hips and fanning herself with a church fan simultaneously during Michael’s
“Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.” The couple coordinated perfectly, the woman in a white dress decorated with dark crimson flowers and the man in a dark crimson suit and white pants, his cream shirt held together by only one button at the bottom, his whole chest on display, both of them shimmying their shoulders in sync to War’s “Ballero.”

notes:
1. Good morning, rabbi Wolff— shabbat shalom, boker tov. Miracle of miracles that i wake pre-dawn to think of you, to learn you hit today at 5:30 in oakland— unfortunately i have tickets to a reggae concert at Frost amphitheater. I’m coming to your soundcheck. Two topics: can you hit sometime anytime at Lytton plaza palo alto in next six days, daylight hours, one hour, between noon and 8 pm— i will provide backline, most likely a yamaha P-125 i rented from Gelb yesterday for maya kronfeld(with Caroline Davis sax Jayla Chee a julliard grad on bass) for $xxx; two can you come back in April hopefully 4/6/24 —which is a magic number 4×6=24–. In a series at palo alto art center which has two nice pianos with Ethan Iverson dick Fregulia marta sanchez myra melford already hooked or booked. I call the series — comprising 20 more shows tomorrow/yesterday thru april 24 4-6-24 “liquid hydrogen bubble house”. The name references physics icon Luis Alvarez. The one in “Oppenheimer”. I.e., played by Nat Wolff. Call me (650) 305-xxxx we had a meeting at iaje 2004 because i knew sean murray and was briefly pm for henry butler. I met nat and alex once at kinkos in menlo park. With a young draper spawn. 2. not to jinx it, but Earthwise possibly overlapping with LHBH will present a 10-particle quantum decoherence of noise sound melody words in san jo with WORKS. 3, Mark Weiss of Earthwise w John Santos, The Mitch, 2019: tuner Carla Wray; we’ve split Steven Eric Cohen into Steve and Eric Cohen; Paul Weiss my father mid-journey 1984 when he carried the flame from Hiroshima all the way back to New Mexico thereby ending all nuclear war, ground war, drone war, cold war and petty spousal squabbles; Scoop, who promised Caroline trio free cold comfort by Ben.
Or I nominate, Michael McFaul, former Obama security chief, an ambassador to Russia, who dated a friend of mine, his freshman and sophomore years. He took us to the Grateful Dead once although I would deny the rumor about how high we got. He directs Freeman Spogli Institute, which is part of Hoover, although he is a lefty as surely as Steve Carlton.
I nominate Matt Porteus, who runs a lab on campus overlapping in some ways with MTL crispr Cas nine. He was at Gunn with me back in the day. Played tennis for Harvard. Not sure if that’s points for points against points for points against points for or points against. I was describing for the undergraduate Rabiah Kabir— heck, pick Rabiah Kabir, the flute player from Berkeley, who is performing at one of my Lytton Plaza shows tomorrow I was telling her that Matt’s sister, Kim Porteus, directs the Nelson Mandela foundation. My fellow Dartmouthian. Their father was a business school professor at Stanford. Heck Kim Porteus, a step down, but you can never fathom the human heart.
Lenny Siegel— wouldn’t that be ironic? (Lenny was an anti-war activist and later mayor of Mountain View; he lets me mine his A3M list-serve for story ideas for Plastic Alto. [editor: fuck Lenny Siegal the self-hating Jew who kicked me off his list serve for calling him a self hating Jew — he said that kibbutz are a type of military human shields no Kibbutz are a failed model of socialism but thank you Stanford for finally removing these pro-Hamas sophomoric antisemites as of 2/18/24 L’ Chaim.]
I like Weissman, Irv Weissman, but not just because our names are similar and he’s a fellow Dartmouthian, but he lives on campus near Steve & Eric Cohen, sons of Paul J. Cohen, or their former neighbor, David Leavitt, the author.
I could easily list 100 of my favorite Stanford affiliates who would be better than MTL, who I always thought he was too good to be true.
James Barrett Yardley — who went to Gunn not Stanford and Chapel Hill. His mother was a Knight fellow in 1981. He won a Pulitzer for exposing corruption in China. CC, Jim Yardley.
I was psyched and then in fact pulled over and called her office on her first day of work Dartmouth’s -new female president although a little disappointed to realize she was coming from Barnard not Columbia overall.
I nominate Aleta Hayes. Senior lecturer in dance. Stanford needs $1 billion gift for steam, not stem.
Zachary Moses Ostroff,Charlie Altura.
Carol Hegna Milton ‘81 — of Casper, Wyoming, and Houston, Texas disclosure a former girlfriend of mine. Jean Watt sometimes known as Jean Jean Sex Machine for reasons literally and figuratively unknown to me, but in NYC also known as Jean Godfrey June has been in leadership or editorial leadership, which is fitting here, in New York. Her father taught. Ian Watt. English.
Malcolm P. Harris — letting him dip his beak into that billion dollar budget would bind his hands about giving it all away.
Some pudgy guy number 32 Vogelbach of the Mets, who just homered as I wrote this
The female harp player and writer associated with A3M — anti-war activists and alumnae.
Josh Thurston Milgrom Lecturer in Music wore a prince T-shirt. His father won the Nobel prize. His stepmother was or is married to two Nobel prize winners. Winning. Go see “Barbie”.
John McEnroe, or Mindy Kaling, or the little girl who was actually Sri Lankan. Bill Rose for his film about Elizabeth Witsee.
Richard Sherman. Best corner in the game. Literally the inventor of code-switching.
