I do not know or have not met to my recollection, the singer Fay Victor, but for the fact that I sponsored during the Covid shutdown a recording by Dave Douglas called “over come”. We are discussing bringing her to PALO ALTO April 2024. Potentially with another Dave Douglas collaborator Jeff Parker guitar.

In this dissertation I study musical, sonic and multimodal representations of sadomaso-
chistic erotica in films, music videos, stage performances, and popular music. The study
consists of an introductory chapter (1), a theoretical chapter on sadomasochism (2), three
chapters discussing six case studies (3–5), as well as discussion and conclusion chapters
(6 and 7). examples investigated are the films Secretary
(2003) and
Duke of Burgundy
(2014), Leonard Cohen’s song ‘I’m Your Man’ (1988), Elvis Costello’s song ‘When I Was
Cruel No. 2’ (2002), Rihanna’s song and music video
S&M
(2011), and a filmed operatic
production of W. A. Mozart’s
Don Giovanni
focusing on the character Zerlina (1787; dir.
Claus Guth, 2008). In the conclusion, I briefly discuss the film
Fiddy Shades of Grey
(2015)
as an example of post-feminist, neoliberal sadomasochism occurring at the time of writing

Someone else wrote an entire book about crab rangoon, what a scam it was, how they don’t even have cream cheese in china — I’ve never ordered it from Chef Chu but I noticed that they had it on the menu Monday under the name “crab and cheese puffs $9.95”

Thank you, India —as Alanis would say — thank you Turkey and…are you finished?
Anna-Elena Pääkkölä. The internet offered this to me for no apparent reason — maybe they are mining my data.
Wired says that a neon who ran for public office has been hacked by Putin and his army of masterbating trolls, who dip their balls in vodka for export. And are indeed building a tower taller than Hoover and only 3 miles away. At he old Sunset campus. At Dartmouth in the 19780s “hoover” was slang for oral sex.

In the City of Palo Alto series tomorrow night, we have Portuguese with a Russian accent by Masha Campagne, who I hear is very good, at Rinconada Park. I remember meeting Sutton at IAJE in 2004 and that she attended Wellesley and USC, or was that Wesleyan then Berkelee. Eleven-time Grammy nominee.

duo B. Cine-Concert featuring Lisa Mezzacappa & Jason Levis with special guests viDEO sAVant and SPELUNKER
The Bay Area improvising drums and bass duo of Jason Levis and Lisa Mezzacappa joins forces with special guests, Italian saxophonist SPELUNKER and video artist Charlie Woodman (viDEO sAVant) for a set of exploratory improvisation and immersive visuals. Expect shimmery soundscapes, edgy grooves, and surreal layered imagery. The evening features decades of deep musical collaboration – Mezzacappa and Levis have been performing together for more than 20 years, taking deep dives into in the music of Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, Cecil Taylor, Wadada Leo Smith, and others, and releasing three records. They are a first-call rhythm section backing up local jazz heroes such as Phillip Greenlief, Cory Wright, Nathan Clevenger, Sarah Wilson, and others. Special guest from Ferrara, Italy, woodwind player SPELUNKER is one of the leading lights in Italy’s creative jazz community as a composer, bandleader and side person, co-leading the Tower Jazz Composers Orchestra and releasing recordings on the Clean Feed, El Gallo Rojo and Aut record labels. Media artist Charlie Woodman is a pioneer of expanded cinema and real-time video improvisation.
